Services — Doug Wheeler Therapy

What We Work On

Services for men ready to do the work

Doug specializes in working with men and male-identifying individuals navigating some of life's hardest terrain — via telehealth across Washington & Oregon.

"He is both a fellow traveler and a gifted healer for men suffering with anxiety, depression, grief, and loss."

A Fellow Traveler

Over the course of many years, Doug has done the hard work of healing his own wounds. His lifelong battle with anxiety, accompanied by social phobia and a childhood deficiency of self-worth, has positioned him to intimately know the landscape of inner healing.

Though personal study and group encounters have been extremely helpful for Doug, he attributes his most enduring change to meeting one-on-one with teachers, therapists and coaches. The right and timely one-on-one encounter engenders trust, safety, and calm — the very elements necessary for vulnerability. When integrity, respect, and imagination are present between an experienced guide and one seeking guidance, miracles can occur.

Doug brings an abundance of clinical knowledge and therapeutic experience to the coaching framework. His years of providing psychotherapy have been built upon contemplative and cognitive behavioral theories, emphasizing the internal family systems model as a game-changer. His masterful use of reimagining and role-play have been agents of transformation for many men. Traditionally, men have been severely underserved, resulting in emotional repression and toxic behavior.

Areas of Focus

Where the work happens

01

Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety and depression are among the most common — and most isolating — struggles men face. Doug provides a steady, non-judgmental space to understand what's driving these feelings and to build practical tools for managing them. The goal isn't just symptom relief; it's lasting change.

02

Grief & Loss

Unattended grief doesn't disappear — it accumulates. Whether you've lost a relationship, a loved one, a career, or a version of yourself, Doug helps you move through grief rather than around it. This work takes courage, and it leads somewhere real.

03

Trauma Recovery

Doug has participated in numerous trauma recovery trainings and retreats as both a participant and facilitator. He brings a deep, embodied understanding of trauma to his work — helping men access and process experiences that have long been out of reach.

04

Life Transitions

Career changes, divorce, retirement, loss of identity — transitions can shake a man to his core. Doug helps you find your footing again, clarify what matters, and move forward with intention rather than inertia.

05

Addiction & Recovery

Doug has partnered with and advised addiction-recovery communities throughout his career. He understands the complexity of recovery — the courage it requires and the ongoing work it demands — and he meets clients exactly where they are.

06

Personal Growth

You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many of Doug's clients come simply wanting to understand themselves better — to live with more intention, build stronger relationships, and become the men they want to be.
